The Renoir exhibit opened at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art this weekend. Went today because general admission is free on holiday Mondays thanks to Target! (Getting into the special exhibit cost $20.)

The galleries featured work Renoir produced in the last 30 years of his life – you won’t find the classic impressionist flowers or inanimate objects featured here. Instead he focused on nudes, “candid” scenes, and sculpture. A nice surprise was the few Matisse pieces sprinkled throughout the exhibit to show how Renoir influenced his style.
It’s hard to tell in this digital image but Renoir’s use of color here is amazing – it’s one of my favorites. I love the shades of blues, green, and red. It’s gotta be something you see in person to appreciate.
On an unrelated note, out front I stumbled across this cool “experiential art.” So cool!
