Vienna Diary: The Beautiful People

July 22nd, 2010 · 3 Comments · travel

Vienna Diary is a short series about my weekend at Life Ball. Now that the big awesome online package for The Huffington Post is complete, thought I’d share with you all the extra tidbits of glamour and glitz that didn’t make it in.

Life Ball was full of designers and celebrities this year, as usual. It was fun running into them and talking as if it were a normal occurrence. My favorite pair was Rebecca and Jerry. Coming off the plane into NYC Jerry was chatting me up asking if I noticed the male flight attendant was wearing heels the whole time! Super friendly people.

{Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell}

It’s really a fine line trying to balance walking the line as a professional journalist and gushing fan when I meet certain stars. At Life Ball meeting Rebecca and Jerry was such a pleasure. I wanted to tell her that I’ve enjoyed following her through her (canceled “Pepper Dennis,” “The Witches of Eastwick,” and “Ugly Betty”) shows, but I didn’t want to risk bringing it up in case it was a sore topic.

{Former President Bill Clinton}

This guy is the man. I was two feet away from him and thisclose to shaking his hand until one of his handlers told me he wasn’t “doing media.” He really does have an aura about him that just brings in people.

{Dita Von Teese}

So gorgeous in Elie Saab.

{Lydia Hearst}

She was very personable and chatty!

{Rebecca Romijn in Jenny Packham}

{Life Ball Press Conference}

{Francisco Costa from Calvin Klein}

{Diane Von Furstenberg and the Radio City Rockettes}

{Interviewing designer and amfAR chairman Kenneth Cole}

{Meeting Kenneth for the first time at cocktail party}

Silly story: So when I learned that I’d have the opportunity to meet Kenneth Cole I wondered what was I going to say to this man? Then I remembered. Sunglasses. When I was in sixth-grade my mother took me to Macy’s to buy my first pair of “designer” sunglasses. They were so hideously trendy I decided to share with Kenneth how I managed to pick out a pair from his Reaction line with light blue lenses. So gracious he said, “So you’re the person who bought them!” Hahaha, great guy.

Coming up tomorrow: The sights! A walk through the streets of Vienna and some of it’s most famous landmarks.
