One of the perks of being a freelance writer is being able to spend an afternoon the way most people treat their weekends. Today was one of those days and it’s just so nice when circumstances in the universe align for such a relaxing afternoon. I scheduled a lunch date today with a girlfriend in San Juan Capistrano without agreeing to meet at any place in particular. I just got in the car and told her to surprise me since we both like to go on little adventures in south Orange County.
We ended up at Hidden House, a quaint little lunch and coffee spot tucked away between a park and a train station. As we chatted away, we would hear the occasional trill of the train crossing bell and see little toddlers (with their mothers lunching not too far away) peek over the picket fence for a glimpse of the passing train. It was just too cute. We took a little stroll through the neighborhood where we saw little boutiques, restaurants and cozy cottages – most were closed because it was a Monday – and even stopped by the park to play on the swings. There were lots of dragonflies, squirrel and bird sightings and the faint scent of a sea breeze. Felt like walking through a town in the1940s. I’ll definitely need to double back on this little gem of a neighborhood soon!
